COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING

One of Five Springs' newest endeavors is its involvement in Cowboy Mounted Shooting. This is a sport that has been popular out west for about nine years, but in the last two years has crossed over east of the Mississippi. Cowboy Mounted Shooting is a timed action event, combining speed, agility and willingness of the horse with the shooting accuracy of the rider. The easy-going temperament of the gaited horse, along with their superior versatility, makes them a perfect candidate for this sport. In a sport dominated by quarter-type horses, our walking horses are competing head to head and doing an excellent job.

Following are pictures of some of Five Springs' gaited horses in action, competing at the state, regional and national level of CMSA.

Joel Paulk, Manager of Five Springs, on Dreamer, his 8 year old blue roan TWHBEA gelding.

Lisa Paulk on Comet, a 10 year old chestnut roan gelding...short, but FAST!

Brenda Holloman on Sierra, a 6 year old spotted saddle horse gelding.

Clay Phillips on Dakota, an 11 year old spotted saddle horse gelding. Clay is only 10 years old and can make this horse fly through the course!

Keith Phillips on Owen, a 9 year old TWHBEA buckskin gelding. Owen turns as good or better than any horse on the circuit and is a top competitor.

Mike Garland (aka "Pork Chop") on Gentry, a 7 year old black roan TWH gelding. Win or lose, nobody has more fun than Mike.

Shanon Wilson on Pistol, a 7 year old TWHBEA black gelding. Shanon's going for the aerodynamic, hatless look!

Sheri Hudson on Frosty, an 11 year old strawberry roan TWH gelding. Fast enough to shoot; safe enough for kids.

Vic Williams, your web master, on Chief.
(He made us put his picture here!)

Tommy Lorentz on Maddie (Mad Dog), a 14 year blue roan TWHBEA mare. She loves this sport!
